Overview

It controls the import, export and transportation of controlled substances that deplete the Ozone layer in fulfilment of Botswana’s obligation in the implementation of the Montreal Protocol.

Licensing, registration and monitoring of persons or institutions wishing to operate Private Meteorological Stations.

How do I get this service?

Download, complete and submit a Licensing and registration of private operators of meteorological service application form to the Department of Meteorological Services.

What supporting documents are required?
  • Citizen- certified copies of  national identity card (Omang)
  • Non-citizen- certified copies of  valid passport
  • Submit general company documents (valid trade license, valid tax clearance certificate, certificate of incorporation, VAT Registration letter and declaration form)
  • Completed site survey form
How long will this service take?

Thirty (30) working days.

Waste Carrier License

Overview

Waste carrier licence is a permit issued for a vehicle that meets the requirements for transportation of the specific waste that to carry, that is:

  • General waste (Domestic or commercial, non-hazardous solid waste,)
  • Hazardous waste (Untreated medical waste, batteries, used oil and others)

Other non-hazardous waste that is neither general nor hazardous waste (scrap metal, crushed tins, bottles, paper and plastic).

Who is eligible?

Citizens and Non-Citizens eighteen (18) years and above.

How do I get this service?
  • Download, complete and submit the Waste Carrier Application Form to the Department of Waste Management and Pollution Control
  • Bring vehicle for inspection
  • Licence will be issued in person
What supporting documents are required?
  • Receipt of payment of licensing fee
  • Company Certificate of Incorporation (certified copy)
  • Vehicle Registration Book (certified copy)
  • BA permit (certified copy)
  • Affidavit or sworn statement that the registered owner of the vehicle has leased it to the applicant (if not registered under the applicant)
  • PrDp – Hazardous (certified copy)
  • Training certificate(s) on at least one of the following undergone by members;
  • Both Fire Fighting & First Aid (certified copies) OR
  • Safety, Health & Environment (certified copy) OR
  • Occupational Health & Safety (certified copy)
  • Accident response plan – Detailing procedures to be followed in case of an accident or emergency occurrence during transportation.
  • Authorisation from the final disposer (e.g. council’s authorization for disposal by incineration at the landfill)
How long will this service take?

Within five (5) working days after the vehicle has passed inspection.

How much does it cost?

BWP 110.00 licensing fee (charged per vehicle).

Archaeological Impact Assessment

Overview

This service is used to determine whether a developer should be permitted to carry out developments on undisturbed land. It also ensures the protection of archaeological resources. Any development on any undisturbed land should be preceded by an Archaeological Impact Assessment done by consultant. These developments include hotels, lodges, roads, borrow pits, dams. The Department of National Museum and Monuments, reviews and approves the Archaeological Impact Assessment reports and monitors existing development projects, as mandated by Section 19 of the Monument and Relics Act of 2001.

Citizens and Non-Citizens aged eighteen (18) years and above

How do I get this service?

The following steps are to be followed in order to obtain this service: 

  1. The developer contacts the department to establish whether they need to carry out an Archaeological Impact Assessment,  by telephone, post or fax.
  2. Where an assessment is required, the developer engages a consultant archaeologist accredited or approved by the Department of National Museum and Monuments. Download a List of accredited/approved consulting archaeologists from Downloadable Forms 
  3. The archaeologist carries out an assessment as per the guidelines for planners. Download Guidelines for Planners 
  4. The assessment reports are submitted to the department for review.
  5. The response is given within seven (7) working days. No development may take place before an archaeological impact assessment permit is given and mitigation measures implemented.
  6.  Chance discoveries during construction should be immediately reported to the department and the archaeological consultant. The work should be halted until the developer is advised on the way forward. Download Guidelines for Archaeological and Architectural Consultants

Meteorological Educational Tours

Overview

Educational tours exist to teach the public about products and services offered by the Department of Meteorological Services. Participants get to tour the Department, see and learn about the meteorological instruments that are used in Botswana including the forecasting studio. An educational tour takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
