Overview

Citizens of Botswana who wish to renounce their citizenship can submit an official request to the Government to de-register from the Civil and National Registry.

Who is eligible?

 

  • Has acquired citizenship of another country
  • Must be over 18 years of age
How do I get this service?

 

  • Completed Form R 
  • After processing, the applicant will be notified 
  • The applicant will be issued with the Certificate of Renunciation of Botswana 
  • The applicant shall be required to surrender Botswana documents (National identity card and Passport to your nearest Immigration Offices or Mission)
What supporting documents are required?
  • Completed Form R
  • Two(2) recent coloured passport size photos
  • Completed Certificate of Origin Form obtained from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship
  • Proof that one has acquired citizenship from another country
  • Certified copy of unbridged birth certificate 
  • Certified copy of parent’s citizenship status
How long will this service take?

This service takes approximately one (1) month to complete.

All Regional Immigration Offices, District Immigration Offices and Missions Abroad.
