Vocational Education Training

Overview

This programme is offered to citizens and non-citizens through Brigades and four Technical Colleges (Maun, Jwaneng, Palapye and Selebi-Phikwe Technical Colleges). These institutions offer vocational training courses up to certificate level (National Craft Certificate). These trades include:

  • Electrical Installation
  • Forestry
  • Horticulture
  • Livestock Farming
  • Machine Fitting

  • Plumbing and Pipe Fitting
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • Welding and Fabrication

  • Citizens and non-citizens
  • 16 years and above
  • Minimum educational requirements: Junior Certificate/BGCSE
  • Special Education Needs inclusive
How do I get this service?
  • Download and complete the Apprenticeship Training form and submit with supporting documents to the nearest office (upon advertisement).
  • Attach the required documents (listed below) and submit the form to the Institutions of choice by post or hand delivery.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Certified copy of National identity card (Omang for citizens)
  • Certified copy of passport (for non-citizens)
  • Relevant educational certificates

Research Permit Application

Overview

The research permit is a permission granted in the form of a written document to any individual or group of people who wish to conduct research in the area related to the mandate of the Ministry.

Who is eligible?

All citizens and non-citizens with a valid visa are eligible for this service.

How do I get this service?

In order to access this service, applicants must complete the following steps.

  • Apply for a research permit indicating the duration required
  • Submit to the Ministry for assessment
  • Outcome will be sent by mail

Note: Do not start the research before the research permit is issued.

What supporting documents are required?
  • Letter of endorsement from the applicant's sponsoring institution and/or funding agency
  • Detailed curriculum vitae of applicant
  • Non-citizens are required under the Immigration Act to obtain a temporary residence permit prior to arrival in Botswana
How long will this service take?

Approximately one (1) month to complete.

Teaching Permit Application

Overview

Any individual (citizens and non-citizens) who would like to be employed to teach at a private school in Botswana is required to hold a Teaching Permit.

Who is eligible?

All citizen and non-citizen graduates of colleges or universities, holding relevant teaching qualifications. 

How do I get this service?

Submit completed application and associated documents to the nearest Regional Education Office.

What supporting documents are required?
  • 3 copies of Permission to Teach Application form (PVTS I)
  • 3 current passport size photos attached to each form
  • Cover letter to application  
  • Academic certificate(s) - certified and interpreted where applicable  
  • Certified copy of academic transcripts  
  • Certified copy of Passport (bio-data page) or certified copy of Omang  
  • 2 current relevant references      
  • Certified copy of any name change document (e.g. marriage certificate)  
  • Previous permit where applicable
