Research Permit Application

Overview

The research permit is a permission granted in the form of a written document to any individual or group of people who wish to conduct research in the area related to the mandate of the Ministry.

Who is eligible?

All citizens and non-citizens with a valid visa are eligible for this service.

How do I get this service?

In order to access this service, applicants must complete the following steps.

  • Apply for a research permit indicating the duration required
  • Submit to the Ministry for assessment
  • Outcome will be sent by mail

Note: Do not start the research before the research permit is issued.

What supporting documents are required?
  • Letter of endorsement from the applicant's sponsoring institution and/or funding agency
  • Detailed curriculum vitae of applicant
  • Non-citizens are required under the Immigration Act to obtain a temporary residence permit prior to arrival in Botswana
How long will this service take?

Approximately one (1) month to complete.

Application for Research Permit with Basic Education

Overview

These permits are issued to conduct education related research in Ministry institutions.

How do I get this service?

Submit a proposal to the Department of Education Planning and Research Services (DEPRS) office at Ministry Headquarters or any Regional Education Office.

What supporting documents are required?
  • Two copies of a completed Research Application Form
  • A letter of endorsement from the applicant’s sponsoring institution
  • A preliminary list of titles for short issue papers and/or progress reports
  • Detailed curriculum vitae of the researcher
  • Citizens to include a certified copy of a valid National Identity Card (Omang)
  • Non-Citizens to include passport copy and Botswana based personnel to be involved.
How long will this service take?

Five (5) working Days.

Primary School Student Registration - Standard One

Overview

Parents/guardians wishing to register their child(ren) for standard one in a public school in Botswana may do so by visiting the nearest primary school. Children who will be six years of age by June of their standard one academic year are welcome to enroll. The academic year in Botswana starts in January. All standard one registrations are done at primary schools across the country.

Who is eligible?

All citizens and non-citizens of Botswana of appropriate age. 

How do I get this service?

Visit nearest primary school in your location. Check the schools for admission dates from May in the year prior to expected admission.

What supporting documents are required?

Citizens must bring the following documents:

  • Parents/Guardians are required to produce National Identity Card (Omang).
  • Certified copies of student’s birth certificate.

Non-Citizens must bring the following documents:

  • Child's birth certificate.
  • Certified copies of passport pages showing identification details and validity period (learner and parent/guardian).
  • Parent/Guardian’s resident permit.
  • Adoption documents (where applicable).

Teaching Permit Application

Overview

Any individual (citizens and non-citizens) who would like to be employed to teach at a private school in Botswana is required to hold a Teaching Permit.

Who is eligible?

All citizen and non-citizen graduates of colleges or universities, holding relevant teaching qualifications. 

How do I get this service?

Submit completed application and associated documents to the nearest Regional Education Office.

What supporting documents are required?
  • 3 copies of Permission to Teach Application form (PVTS I)
  • 3 current passport size photos attached to each form
  • Cover letter to application  
  • Academic certificate(s) - certified and interpreted where applicable  
  • Certified copy of academic transcripts  
  • Certified copy of Passport (bio-data page) or certified copy of Omang  
  • 2 current relevant references      
  • Certified copy of any name change document (e.g. marriage certificate)  
  • Previous permit where applicable
