Overview

This is a pre-requisite process prior to registration, exportation, importation and major changes to a motor vehicle in/ or from Botswana.

Letter from the owner of the car. (Prior to authorization the car is inspected)

Registration of home-made trailers

DRTS Chassis Number (from Department of Road Transport & Safety)

 

Who is eligible?

The owner of the motor vehicle or any other person authorised by the owner in writing to process clearance on their behalf.

How do I get this service?

Applicant must bring the motor vehicle for physical inspection together with supporting documents to the designated clearing police establishments.

After satisfying all processes the owner is issued with:

 

  • Botswana Police Form BP17A (Motor Vehicle Clearance for Export Only) for export to Non Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (SARPCCO) countries
  • SARPCCO Motor Vehicles Clearance Certificate for exported motor vehicles to SARPCCO countries
  • Botswana Police Form BP17B (Motor Vehicle Clearance for Registration Only) for imported motor vehicles
What supporting documents are required?
  • Valid identification documents (Omang, Residents Permits or passports)
  •  

    Applicants with new vehicles must bring the following documents:

  • Purchase Invoice
  • SARPCCO Clearance Certificate
  •  

     Applicants with used vehicles must bring the following documents:

    SARPCCO Countries:

     

  • SARPCCO Clearance Certificate (valid for 90 days.)
  • Invoice
  • Registration Book
  •  

    Non SARPCCO Countries:

  • Invoice
  • Bill of Lading (e.g. for imports. Japan, Singapore etc)
