Skills Development and Training Programme (SDTP)

Overview

The programs serves as a vehicle to poverty eradication through the provision of requisite vocational and entrepreneurial skills to the out of school population (Those who have been enrolled in Adult Basic Education Programme (ABEP) and Out of School Education for Children (OSEC))

Learners who have been enrolled in Adult Basic Education Programme (ABEP) and Out of School Education for Children (OSEC) programmes

How do I get this service?

Offered to only learners enrolled in Adult Basic Education Programme (ABEP) and Out of School Education for Children (OSEC) programmes as optional.

How long will this service take?

The programme has a flexible duration

Out of School Education for Children Programme (OSEC)

Overview

It is a programme offered to  formal school education system drop outs, candidates aged 4 and half to 18 years. This includes children with socio-economic factors, demographic challenges, or  have been denied access to education due to their cultural background.

Who is eligible?

Persons aged 4 and half years to 18 years.

How do I get this service?

•    Registration is done at any Regional or Sub Regional Offices throughout the year
•    Eligible persons are to bring certified birth certificate and parent’s national identity document

What supporting documents are required?

Certified birth certificate and parent/guardian's national identity document

How long will this service take?

Confirmation of enrolment is within 5 working days and duration of the course is flexible

Adult Basic Education Programme (ABEP)

Overview

The programme offers Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) equivalence to any person young and old, man or woman who could not complete standard seven can take up ABEP lessons and better their lives, either illiterate or semi-illiterate aged 19 years and above.

Level 1: Standard 1-2
Subjects taught; Setswana, Mathematics  and English

Level 2: Standard 3-4
Subjects : Setswana, mathematics, English and General studies which comprises of Social Issues, Health, science and technology

Level 3: Upper Primary (Standard 5,6,and 7)
 

Who is eligible?

Any person young and old, man or woman who could not complete standard seven can take up ABEP lessons and better their lives, either illiterate or semi-illiterate aged 19 years and above.

Overview

Includes provision of professional advisory services to Ministries Departments and Agencies for implementation of government reforms agenda; Conduct of surveys, skills audits, training needs assessments, impact analysis.

Categorised into;

  • Transformational programmes - designed in alignment to government’s transformational agenda to equip public officers to effectively deliver/implement government reforms and policies.

  • Leadership development programmes - aimed at improving public service leadership competencies at all levels.

  • Public administration & management programmes - aimed at developing public officers in specific skills that enable them to perform or deliver services.  These are delivered under three (3) domains: Corporate support Development; Productivity Development and Human Resource Development.

All officers working for government.

How do I get this service?

Application is made by Ministries/Departments/Agencies through the through the Training coordinators or Human Resource Departments to the Executive Director, Botswana Public Service College. 

What supporting documents are required?

Clearance/permission to attend is granted from the host Ministry/Department.

How long will this service take?

Programmes run on a timeline of 1-10 days depending on the programme.
