Overview

The President of Botswana may cause for registration of a foreign national as a citizen of Botswana on the grounds of special considerations.

Who is eligible?

A. Any person as a token of honour, who in the opinion of the President has done signal honour or rendered distinguished service to Botswana;  or 

A person not otherwise entitled to or eligible for citizenship of Botswana, to whom special circumstances exist which in the opinion of the President warrant such registration.

How do I get this service?

In order to access this service, applicants must complete the following steps.

  • Complete and submit  Form H along with required documents and fees listed below.
  • Check the status of your application at any Immigration and Citizenship Office
  • If your application is successful you will be notified and requested to renounce your foreign citizenship 
  • You will be issued with a Registration Certificate after you have renounced your foreign citizenship
  • If your application is rejected, a rejection letter will be issued
  •  You can re-apply if you wish. (there is no time restriction for re-submission).
What supporting documents are required?
  • Completed application Form H
  • Two coloured passport size photos
  • Certified copy of valid Residence Permit/Exemption Certificate/Permanent Residence
  • Letter addressed to The President
  • Set of Police Report Forms
  • Certified copy of Birth Certificate
  • Copy of valid certified passport (bio data page)

    Affidavits from witnesses(minimum of three) with close knowledge of the applicant and family background, each accompanied by certified copy of identity document 

    Those operating business should include;  
    •    a company profile (e.g. location of business, service provided and employment level
    •    shares held and indicate other shareholders and their nationalities (current CIPA shares certificate)
    •    valuation report of property owned or copy of lease agreement
    •    valid trade license  
    •    Current Audited Financial statements
    •    Current Tax Returns

On average 12 to 18 months
