Reporting an Incident to the Police

Overview

This service entails how the police respond to call outs regarding crime reports/incidents. Members of the public are encouraged to report any crime, road traffic accident or any incident reportable to the police.

The following information may be required when reporting;

  • Exact location of the incident
  • Time of the incident
  • Any injuries or causalities

  • Report to nearest police station, police post 
  • Report to any police officer in proximity

Our standards for responding after receiving a report are:

  • 16 minutes in urban areas
  • 60 minutes in other areas

Police Band Services

Overview

The Police Band performs at ceremonial, public and private functions. The request should be made three months prior to the event.

Who is eligible?

Institutions and the general public.

How do I get this service?
  • Submit a written request to the Commissioner of Police for band hiring

  • Submit a written request to Commander Special Support Group (SSG) for hall hiring

  • Indicate on the request letter, the date, time and location of the event

Police Clearance

Overview

This service entails verification of fingerprints by the police to confirm whether one has any criminal record or not, for the purpose of employment, studies considerations etc.

Who is eligible?
  • All inhabitants of Botswana with valid reasons for clearance.
  • Foreigners who have stayed in Botswana for 6 months or more.
How do I get this service?
  • Applicants may submit their request in person, post, or courier to Criminal Record Bureau of the Botswana Police Service. Applications from abroad should include returning postage or courier.
  • No applications shall be sent by fax or email
What supporting documents are required?

CITIZEN APPLICANTS

  • A set of fingerprints obtained on a recognised fingerprint form from any Police Station nearest to the applicant (even outside Botswana).
  • Valid identification documents (minors included).
  • An application letter or any other supporting document with reasons for application.

FOREIGN APPLICANTS

  • A set of fingerprints obtained on a recognized fingerprint form from any Police Station nearest to the applicant (even outside Botswana)
  • Copy of valid passport
  • Copy of either residence or work permit issued to the applicant while residing in Botswana.
  • An application letter or any other supporting document with reasons for the application.

Commissioning of Oaths

Overview
  • This service is done by a police officer of the rank of Sergeant and above
  •  Every oath shall be taken by the deponent in the presence of the Commissioner of Oaths
  • Please note it is an offence to give false information while under oath
Who is eligible?

Any person above the age of 18 years

How do I get this service?
  • Visit the nearest police station to complete an affidavit form where necessary or bring relevant documents which require the commissioning of oaths.
  • Commissioner of Oaths shall verify the identity of the deponent by examining national identity (Omang) for citizens and a valid passport for non-citizens.
What supporting documents are required?
  • Citizens must present a valid National Identification card (Omang)
  • Non-citizens must present a valid passport
