Overview

The Radiation Protection Act, 2006, the Radiation Protection Regulations, 2008 and other international standards require routine inspections. Radiological safety inspections are conducted to verify compliance with the regulatory requirements and conditions of the licence. The primary goal is to ensure the protection of workers, the public and the environment from the adverse effects of ionizing radiation.

Statutory radiological safety inspections may be scheduled or unannounced. However it is the responsibility of individual organizations to contract experts to conduct periodic radiological safety assessments.  In locations where expert contractors are not available the Radiation Protection Inspectorate can provide radiological inspections on a consultancy basis.
