SELF HELP HOUSING AGENCY (SHHA)

 Introduction

 The SHHA department is involved in facilitating the provision of affordable housing to low/medium income persons in the district.

The South East District Council administers the SHHA program while the Malete and Tlokweng Land Boards allocate residential plots.

 Who qualifies?

 Those who qualify for the SHAA loan are:

• Employed individuals earning P366.00-P3033.00 per month

• Botswana citizens aged 21-60 years
• Having a Common Law Lease or Certificate of Customary Land Grant
• Must have approved house plan (approved by the Council Physical Planning Unit)

 The Loan Scheme

  The loan scheme incorporates Labour and Materials

40% (labor cost) is paid directly to the contractor/builder by the Council

60% (material cost) of which a voucher system is used to purchase materials from supplies

 There are two types of loans, the Improvement loan and the Turn Key loan.

 Improvement Loan

• Loan amount P45 000.00
• Client must have already started development
• All plans must be approved by the SEDC Physical Planning Department

 Turn Key Loan

• The SHAA Department builds a house for the client and gives them a key to occupy the house
• Loan amount P65 000.00

 Requirements for both loans

• Passport size photo
• Certified copy of Omang
• Latest pay slip/ bank statement for 6 months
• SEDC approved private plan/ P30.00 for SHAA plan
• Verification of employment/ self employment form
• Certified copies of marriage certificate
• In case of surety, letter from Kgosi confirming children’s agreement to assist the parents

NB: The loan is not insured

 Loan Repayment

• Repayment period  20 years
• Interest rate 0%
• When on default interest will be charged at 10% on arrears

·         The first installment is paid at the time of signing the Housing Loan Agreement

·         Where possible, a Stop Order payment arrangement can be made

·         The payments are made at the Ramotswa and Tlokweng Revenue Offices
