Botswana is a member of various international Organisations such as ILO, AU, SADC. The division is responsible for ensuring compliance with ILO Conventions which Botswana has ratified as well as periodically reporting to the ILO on progress of domesticating legislation to conform to ratified conventions.

This act provides for compensation of workers for injuries suffered or occupational diseases contracted in the course of employment, or for death resulting from such injuries or diseases and for matters incidental and connected to the foregoing.

The Dispute Resolution Unit offers prevention and interventions towards resolving disputes and realigning divergence. For this reason disputes can be reported to any District Labour Office for registration paving way for mediation and arbitration processes.

This act regulates the employment and other engagement in occupations for reward or profit of certain persons who are not citizens of Botswana and provide for matters incidental thereto.

Non-citizens employed by the Government of Botswana and certain volunteers are not covered by this Act

This Unit quantifies the performance and the work of the Department of Labour to enable different parties to make projections, interpretations, measurements, comparisons, etc. The work of the Research and Statistics Unit results in the publication of many materials including the Departmental Annual Report.
