Report On the Gender Disaggregated Data On Positions Of Power And Decision Making Within Public, Parastatals, Parliament Cabinet, The Private Sector And Organized Bodies

The Women’s Affairs Department is mandated to facilitate mainstreaming of Gender Issues in the development process.  In the past decade, Women’s Non-Governmental Organisations, Community Based Organisations and Groups have been active players in the social and economic development of Botswana.

The Department is working with other Ministries and Departments to implement the recommendations of the Review of Laws. The last meeting for the stakeholders was held on 22 March 2007

The International and Regional Instruments Acceded/Ratified/Signed Which Promote Gender Equality

The Policy was adopted by Parliament in 1996 with the understanding that all Batswana and their organizations would own and implement it. (This Policy has been reviewed and a draft Gender Policy developed).

The Department’s operations/activities are guided by the priority issues that are outlined in the National Gender Programme Framework (the Six Critical Areas of Concern adopted from the twelve critical areas from the Beijing Platform of Action)
