The Botswana National Tree Seed Centre (BNTSC) was established in 1998 through the six year SADC Tree Seed Centre Network Project funded by CIDA.

To provide tree seed of the appropriate quality for tree planting programmes;
The DFRR provides tree seedlings at subsidised prices to the public to support the government afforestation programme. The aim is to encourage Batswana to plant indigenous trees to combat desertification and mitigate the impacts of global warming. The DFRR also assist individuals and groups who wish to establish nurseries and backyard nurseries through provision of education and training. The Division of extension Services provide technical support to individuals who are interested in establishing forestry related projects for socio-economic purposes. These include support for establishment of woodlots, CBNRM projects, Forests and Range Resources Conservation Trusts etc. The Department also assists in drawing of management plans for community based vegetation resources project.
