The Attorney-General's Chambers is an extra ministerial
Department under the Office Of The President and it is
headed by the Attorney-General. The role of the Attorney-
General is defined in section 51 of the Constitution of
Botswana as the Principal legal adviser to the Government. The Attorney-General is also an ex-officio Member of Cabinet, and serves on various policy level committees.

The functions of the Attorney-General's Chambers are carried out under various divisions namely, International and Commercial Division (ICD), Civil Litigation Division, Directorate of Public Prosecutions Division (DPP), Legislative Drafting Division (LDD) and the Departmental Management Division. In terms of the law all legal actions for and against the Government are instituted by or against the Attorney-General in a representative capacity. Addition to its core business, the Department also handles Botswana Law Reports.
