This service aims at issuing building permit to any person who intends to construct (develop), demolish or alter a building prior to carrying out such works as required by the Building Control Act (cap.65:03).

 How Do I obtain the service?

 Complete an application form (Building and planning permission application forms)

 How do I apply for the service?

 Submit the following:

  •   Four copies of filled Building and Planning Permission Application Forms.
  •   Proof of ownership i.e. title deed copy (certified).
  •   Certified copy of Omang (ID).
  •    Four sets of proposed development drawings (Location plan, site plan, elevations, sections, details, floor plan)
  •   Letter of indemnity from a Structural Engineer for multi storey building/factory shells.
  •   Contour plan/invert levels for sewer services
  •  Rates clearance certificate

 Application perusal fee = P104.00

Method of payment: cash at council revenue office upon submission of the application

Chobe District Council considers and grants planning permission monthly for developments in the district especially in Kasane-Kazungula Planning Area, through the SHHA and Physical Planning Committee. All developments requires planning permission and building permit before commencement in accordance to Town and Country Planning Act CAP: 32:09

 1.     How to apply

 Required documents on submission of application

(i)    Location Plan – drawn to sufficient scale with prominent uses/development to serve as a guide to identify the site showing the land to which the application relates

(ii)    Site Plan – drawn to scale not less than 1:500

 

a)     Boundaries of the land and any adjoining plot and any road fronting or adjoining those plots and its name and width

b)     Position of any existing or proposed buildings on the land

c)      Position of any existing or proposed boreholes, septic tanks, cesspits or cesspools or pit latrines, drains sewers or other sewage disposal plant on the land

d)     Position and width of any existing or proper means or access to any road from the land

e)     Set back from the building to all plot boundaries and the distance in relation to any existing development on site

 

(iii)    Building Plans (*4 copies) – to scale not less than 1:100 showing;

a)     Plan of each floor and the proposed use of each space

b)    Elevation of all sides of the building

c)    At least on section through the building giving all necessary information on type of construction and building materials to be used

 

(iv)   Copy of land lease/ title Deed

(v)   A letter with reasons for change/subdivision (in case of application for change use/ subdivision)

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST

(vi)   There  is a perusal fee paid on submission of every application and it is determined by the floor area of the proposed development, as indicated below;

(vii)   Floor Area                                      Perusal Fee

(viii)   0 – 50m2                                       BWP20.00

(ix)    51 – 150m2                                    BWP50.00

(x)     151 – 500m2                                  BWP150.00

(xi)    501 – 2000m2                                BWP500.00

 

2.     Payment of perusal fees

(i)    If all documents in (1) above are complete, perusal fees is paid at Revenue Office, of Chobe District Council

(ii) Payment can be made in cash or bank guaranteed cheque in favor of Council

3.   Applications are presented to a Council SHHA & Physical Planning Committee, made up of sitting councilors.

(i)    Committee sit every first week of the month

(ii) Considers applications and make decisions

(iii)  Recommends others application to Town and Country Planning Board as per the TCPA CAP.32:09

 

4.      Decision of the Committee is communicated to the applicant within seven days

5.      Applicants may collect approved plans any time after receipt of letter granting them planning and building permit

6.      Applicant may commence development with services from council offered on request

Service Description

Issuance of planning permission is meant to ensure that all developments are done in accordance with central and local government policies, standards and procedures.

The process involves submission of an application for planning permission accompanied by plans to the Physical Planning office by the applicant or someone sent assessment of the application by the Building Control Committee and consideration by the SHHA and Physical Planning Committee.

In considering the planning permission application the SHHA and Physical Planning Committee may either:
        

  • approve the application right away or 
  • approve on condition or 
  • defer for further information o
  • refer the application to Town and Country Planning Board

After approval the developments are inspected by the Building Control Committee members until completion and then issued with occupation permit.

How do I obtain the Service?

The customers can contact the Physical Planning Office to get the advice, the requirements and the application forms. In submission the applicant can submit themselves or send someone as they have to pay perusal fee when submitting.

How do I apply for the Service?  

          Citizens

In submitting an application for planning permission the following are required:

  • 3 copies prescribed application forms for planning and building permission obtainable from the Building Control Office, and Physical Planning Offices, Rural Administration Centre (RAC).
  • 4 copies of Site plan, Location plan and Building plans
  • A copy of proof of ownership
  • Payment of perusal fee (determined by floor area size)

For all applications which are to be referred to the Town and Country Planning Board 8 copies should be submitted.

The following applications require consideration of the Town and Country Planning Board:

  • Applications which are recommended for rejection
  • Applications for subdivision and consolidation of land.
  • Applications for change of use.
  • Industrial development with a floor plan area of at least 1000 square metres.
  • Commercial development with a floor plan area of at least 500 square metres.
  • Applications for residential development of more than 20 dwelling units.
  • A single use of land greater than 10ha

   Non-Citizens

The requirements and procedures are the same as for non-citizens.

Cost Involved

  • The plan perusal fees range from P4.00 to P128.00 depending on the floor area for the proposed development.

     SERVICE DESCRIPTION

Plan Perusal deals with the submission of an application for planning permission accompanied by plans to the Physical Planning office or Building Control office by the applicant or someone sent, assessment of the application by the Building Control Committee and consideration by the SHHA and Physical Planning Committee.

Service Description

The Radiation Monitoring Service (RMS) is provided to monitor individual exposure and ambient radiation levels of the environment due to ionizing radiation from external radiation sources. The service is provided using Harshaw thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) badges for both personnel and environmental monitoring. The TLD badges used are capable of assessing with sufficient accuracy doses from exposure to beta rays, gamma rays, X-rays or a mixture of these types of radiation. The TLD badges are issued on monthly exchange periods at most two (2) weeks before the start of each wearing period. After the expiry of the wearing period*, the used TLD cards are returned to Department of Radiation Protection for processing and reporting of result follows.

How do i obtain Service?

  • The facility must be licensed to pocess /use radiation sources
  • Register with National Dosimetry Lab (NDL) by completing the registration form NDS 01 and sending it to DRP for processing.
  • After completion of the process TLD badges will be sent to the facility by registered mail.
  • After the expiry of  the wearing period*, the used TLD cards are returned to DRP for processing after which the results will be sent to the facility.
  • Staff changes that occur during the provision of the service are made by completing the amendments form NDS 02.

Costs involved in obtaining service

As a cost recovery measure, there are charges to the user facilities for the provision of the monitoring service and for lost or damaged badges. The charges are as follows:

  • Monitoring charge per worker per month:              P30
  • Replacement charge for a lost or damaged Badge  P550

Methods of payment: Cash/cheque or adjustment voucher paid to the Department of radiation protection.

*the wearing period starts at the beginning and ends at the end of each month. To be considered for monitoring at the next wearing period, application should be recieved by DRP atleast twenty one (21) days before the beginning of the wearing period.

Botswana driving license card is valid for 5 years, driving license card are renewable at DRTS offices. Driving license cards can be renewed 3 months before the date of expiry.

Service description

Application for replacement of a lost permit

Who qualifies for this service?

  • All expatriates who has lost a work permit.

What does it take to apply for the service?

  • Statement/Affidavit from the police stating how the permit got lost or damaged.
  • Copy of the lost permit (if available).
  • Cover letter to the regional office.
  • If one is an employee, your employer should write the letter for you confirming you are still employed by the company.
  • If one is a director, a fellow director should write the letter for you confirming that you still work with them in the company.
  • Both letters must include the physical address and contact numbers.
  • Submit a letter from them confirming that they are still employed by the company.
  • Applicant should fill in a duplicate form (Form no.6) at the regional office.
  • Forms should then be submitted to the nearest Regional Labour office.

What do I need to apply for the service as an employee?

  • 2 passport size photos for submission to the Labour office.
  • An extra 2 passport size photos are required for submission at the Immigration office if applicant has also lost their residence permit.
