What is a filming permit?

It is a permission granted in the form of a written document to any individual/group of people who want to film in Botswana.

NB: When shooting in any part of Botswana where there is flora and fauna, the permission is granted by the Ministry fo Environment, Wildlife and Tourism at a cost of P10 000.00.

Who should get a filming permit?

Anybody who is a citizen and/or non citizen with a valid visa.

What is required to get a filming permit? ( e.g. documentation)

  • Application letter
  • Download, fill in and complete the filming permit application form
  • Attach copies of identity documents(provide an identity card if you are a citizen of Botswana or a passport with a valid visa if you are a non citizen

How much does it cost ?

  • Free

(Anyone who wishes to shoot in any part of Botswana where there is flora and fauna should contact: Ministry of Environment ,Wildlife and Tourism at 00267 3647900 / 00267 3647911.

 How long does it take to get a permit?

Two months.

The request is forwarded to all other relevenat Ministries to give consent for the issuance, before the Ministry of  Labour and Home Affairs can  finalise the issuance of the permit.

1. Rebate Certificate
Rebate certificate is a document that exempts non-governmental organizations (like welfare organizations registered in terms of Societies Act cap 18:01), religious or sporting or educational organizations; persons with disability, hospitals including clinics from paying customs duty on donated goods.


2.1 Where do I obtain the service?
Service is obtained at the Department of International Trade office at Plot 690, Extension 2, Gaborone, Opposite Tim’s Lock and Key;


2.2 How do I apply for the service?
Make an application in writing, either hand deliver or post to the Director, Department of International Trade, Private Bag 0073, Gaborone. Attach a copy of registration certificate from Registrar of Societies and a letter of proof from the donor indicating that they have indeed donated such goods to you. Also attach the invoice of goods being imported.
Certificate issued within a day for error free applications.


2.3. How much does the service cost?
It is free of charge.

 • Copyright includes literary and artistic works, such as novels, poems, play, film, musical works, drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures, computer software and architectural designs.

2. How do I obtain the service?

 Visit one of the Offices of Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property in Gaborone or Francistown.

3. Is copyright registered?

No, Copyright exists upon creation of a work and the creator need not register to enjoy copyright protection. The mere fact of creation automatically qualifies a work as copyrightable.

 • Who owns copyright? The original creator of a work owns the rights to use, reproduce, authorize or prohibit the use of their creation.

 • Anti-Piracy The use of the security device (Hologram) The Copyright and Neighboring Rights Act CAP 68:02, requires that all sound and audiovisual recordings made available to the public by sale, rental, lending or distribution in any other manner to the public for commercial purpose in Botswana should have a security device or hologram affixed to them. The main benefit derived from the use of the hologram is to authenticate audiovisuals works so that law enforcers, the public and users can distinguish it from pirated works as a way of curbing piracy in the market.

4. How much does the service cost?

The security device (hologram) is sold for P0.30 at ROCIP either in Gaborone or Francistown. Who can purchase the security device? The following can purchase the security device:

• The owner of the work /producer

 • The importer

APPLICATION FOR BUILDING AND PLANNING PERMISSION

DESCRIPTION OF THE SERVICE

Jwaneng Town Council considers applications for building and planning permission monthly for developments in the Township Planning Area, through the SHHA and Physical Planning Committee. All developments(residential, commercial, industrial, civic and community, recreational) requires planning permission and building permit before commencement in accordance to Town and Country Planning Act CAP: 32:09. Council also supervises approved construction of private buildings and regulate all private development in the Township to ensure conformity with Building Control Code and other regulations.

HOW DO I OBTAIN THE SERVICE?

Required documents on submission of application

  • Application form, duly completed
  • Location Plan – drawn to sufficient scale with prominent uses/development to serve as a guide to identify the site showing the land to which the application relates
  • Site Plan – drawn to scale not less than 1:500 showing

a)     Boundaries of the land and any adjoining plot and any road fronting or adjoining those plots and its name and width

b)     Position of any existing or proposed buildings on the land

c)      Position of any existing or proposed boreholes, septic tanks, cesspits or cesspools or pit latrines, drains sewers or other sewage disposal plant on the land

d)     Position and width of any existing or proper means or access to any road from the land

e)     Set back from the building to all plot boundaries and the distance in relation to any existing development on site

 For applications referred to the Town and Country Planning Board, 8 copies will be required

  • Building Plans (*4 copies) – to scale not less than 1:100 showing;

a)   Plan of each floor and the proposed use of each space

b)    Elevation of all sides of the building

c)    At least on section through the building giving all necessary information on type of construction and building materials to be used

  • Copy of land lease/ title Deed
  • A letter with reasons for change of land use/subdivision/waiver (in case of application for change of land use/ subdivision)
  • Neighbour consultation forms duly completed ( in case of change of land use, boundary wall)
