NATIONAL IDENTITY CARD (OMANG)

What is a National Identity Card? 

it is a  document that is used to show that one is a citizen of the Republic of Botswana. It is requirement by law that every Motswana above the age of 16  have one. This card is also commonly known as Omang.

Who qualifies for this service?

  • Every citizen of Botswana above the age of 16.

What do I need to apply for the service?

  • Yourself.
  • Birth Registration certificate.

If you do not have a birth certificate

  • Yourself.
  • Both or one of your parents or a guardian or a relative if you are a minor.
  • An Affidavit in lieu of a Birth Certificate.
  • An Affidavit from the Chief or Headman.
  • Any other proof of records (e.g. school transcripts).

How much does it cost to apply for Omang?

The first issue of application is free.

A fee of P5.00 is paid for ;

  • an expired identity cards (after 10 years)
  • an application due to change of name

A fee of P110.00 is paid for;

  • a lost, destroyed/damaged identity card.

A National Identity Card is valid for 10 years. In case of replacements, the old card should be surrendered to the Civil and National Registration Officer.

How do I apply for Omang when I have naturalized citizenship?

Bring Citizenship Registration certificate.

NB: The District Registrar may require any other information that s/he may deem necessary to prove a person’s qualification for registration.

Where can I apply for my National Identity Card?

Applications can be done at any Civil and National Registration office. countrywide.

Can one send someone else to collect him/her Omang?

It is not allowed to collect another person’s card unless where there are convincing reasons for which one is obliged to authorize, in writing, someone to collect an ID on their behalf. The individual will also sign a proxy form.

Standards, Prerequisites, Training, Testing and General Procedures for “New” Driving Instructors (RTA section 41)

Applicants will be guided through a process of training, testing and re-testing to ensure awareness of national policies for safe driving and the duties of Driving Test Examiners.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 25 years of age

Must hold a valid license card for class B

Photocopy of the DLCard

Education level: JC, BGCSE AND NCC, OR Certificate in Adult Education

Copy of Omang ID

Police Clearance Certificate

Medically fit, Submit completed form DL-31 together with the application form DL-1

REQUIREMENTS FOR HIGHER CLASSES

Applicant must have class C1 or higher

Evidence confirming competency (student pass/failure results)

A clear Police record (on DL-1 form) and be free of any license suspensions in the last four years preceding this application.

In order to obtain a Driving Instructor permit (RTA  CAP. 69:01 Section 41) an applicant must successfully complete a basic training course for Licence Classes B and EB (light vehicle and trailer) by a recognized expert nominated by the Director.

General procedure for Class B and EB

A. Trainees must attend the basic light vehicle (B/EB) training course, which includes 14   lessons in theory, all reversing disciplines and road training. Training requests must be submitted in writing to the Department of Road Transport and Safety, Unit: Driver Training, Examination.

B. Trainees must successfully complete a written knowledge test and a practical driving test in a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission and automatic transmission. 

C. The practical component of the Class B and EB training requires that trainees conduct training on learner drivers under the supervision of an expert appointed by the Director.  

D. Training for additional Licence Classes shall be made available to licensed instructors who satisfy the requirements listed below. 

E. Training should be completed within three (1) month of the commencement of the course.  The Class B and EB, tests may be repeated three times and for a fourth time only if the Director grants such permission in writing.  

F. Upon successful completion of Class B and EB training, a Permit will be issued by the Director.

G. Licensed Driving Instructors will be monitored regularly to ensure that services are provided according to government policies, procedures and regulations.

 1. Service description

Political parties present their preferred candidates before the Returning Officer for registration to contest elections. The date of nomination of candidates and the hours within which candidates shall present their nomination papers to the Returning Officers shall be notified in the Writs of Election (Parliamentary Elections) and Election Instruments (Local Government Elections).

 2. How do I obtain service?

You must be a Motswana, 18 years and above and registered to vote. 

3.How do I apply for service?

Registration of candidates takes place at the constituency nomination centre for Parliamentary election or polling district nomination centre for the Council election. The prospective candidate and his/her proposer, seconder and seven (7) supporters must present themselves before a Returning Officer at a nomination centre with a completed nomination paper (Form O). The proposer, seconder and supporters must be registered for elections in the area in which the candidate seeks election.

4. Costs involved 

The Service Sum of P500 for the Parlimentary or P100 for the council elections must be paid before nomination. The candidate must produce proof of payment of deposit in the form of a reciept slip from a government revenue office or pay the required amount to the Returning Officer.

Any voter who recieves notice of cancellation under section 21 (1) may appeal to a magistrate. Any notice of such appeal shall be delivered to the principal registration officer who sent the notice of cancellation to the voter within a period of 14 days after delivery of such notice of cancellation.
