HON.KGATHI OPENS SEROWE PUBLIC LIBRARY: Serowe residents among them the former Vice President Lt. Gen Mompati Merafhe have gathered at Serowe Public Library to witness the official opening ceremony of the newly refurbished library. The project of refurbishing the library started in 2008 when the Botswana National Library Service under the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture saw that the information needs of the residents of Serowe and the surrounding areas had grown.
The library has a long history as it was established in 1963 as a donation. The library itself is a massive 3 storey building that houses three libraries (children's, youth and adult libraries) in one, a multipurpose hall and several offices.
Officiating at the event the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Hon. Shaw Kgathi explained that his Ministry was committed to providing world class information venues and said that since 2008 they have spent over P100million building libraries at Jwaneng, Tonota, Ramotswa and Serowe. He urged village authority and other community leaders to use the facility as well as encourage the younger generation to do so as well.
