The cutoff dates for ploughing/planting is determined by the onset of winter. Winter frost and shorter daylight inhibits plants from reaching physiological maturity. Winter comes earlier in the south of the country than in the northern part, hence different dates.

Farmers and private tractor owners are advised that those who engage in ploughing/planting outside the above mentioned deadlines will not benefit from ISPAAD.

To date 75500 hectares have been planted with various crops. Ploughing/planting and field measuring are continuing therefore the figure is expected to increase.

Meanwhile, farmers are advised to liaise with the frontline extension agents (Balimisi) for field measurement and signing of ploughing and planting completion certificates. Farmers are also encouraged to start registering for 2013/2014 cropping season ISPAAD assistance.

Thank you.
