Police adopts zero tolerance

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe, says the police will adopt a zero tolerance approach towards crime in urban centers.

Addressing No.3 District police officers in Gaborone recently, the Commissioner said urban crime remains a major challenge to the police. He said in order to reduce crime the police should identify hot spots and also improve response time regardless of where they police. He said he will ensure that all officers irrespective of area of specialization contribute towards crime reduction. He also emphasized the need to improve excellence, professionalism and integrity for better service delivery.

Mr Makgophe commended special constables for the efforts they have made in regulating traffic flow during pick hours on the busy roads in Gaborone. He said he is receiving positive response from members of the public. He urged them to continue with that gesture of responding to public crisis and said that shows that they care about the community they serve.

When addressing crime prevention committees, he said Botswana Police recognizes the fact that the police alone cannot win the war against crime, hence it commits to deliver on its mandate in partnership with the community. He said he will continue to support clusters and police volunteers to boost their morale. Mr Makgophe further said the partnership that prevails between the police and community will make this country realize its vision by 2016 and beyond.
