Police officers urged to reduce road fatalities

The Commissioner of Police Mr Thebeyame Tsimako has challenged police officers to commit themselves to reduce the number of deaths and accidents on the roads.

Addressing Francistown, Matsiloje and Tonota police officers recently, Mr Tsimako expressed concern about road traffic accidents that continue to claim people’s lives. He said police officers should employ preventative mechanisms that could be a solution to this disturbing phenomenon.

The Commissioner also said motorists continue to violate the road traffic law therefore police officers should be seen on the roads to reverse the situation. He said some of the major contributing factors to road accidents are driving under the influence of alcohol, excessive speed, overloading and unroadworthy motor vehicles. He said this is a challenge to the entire organisation therefore public education should be done to better the situation.

On other issues, Mr Tsimako implored the officers to adhere to the organisation’s guiding principles. He said the observance of the organisation’s core principles of Botho, Excellence, Integrity and Team work could uphold the integrity of the organisation. He said police officers should be exemplary by exercising Botho when serving the community and even when they are on and off duty.
