The North West District recently hosted Pitso ya Nyeletso lehuma at Shakawe.The two day event which was held under the theme poverty eradication: a shared responsibility attracted stakeholders,beneficiaries and the business community from Ngami and Okavango sub districts.
Officiating at the event, Honourable Maxwell Motowane urged the community to revisit traditional ways of eradicating poverty such as letsema, mafisa and others. This is where communities come together for a common goal and help other disavdvantaged individuals in the community either by ploughing, building a house or loaning cattle.
He also called for cooperation between the community and government to exercise commitment for the success of poverty eradication initiatives. He futher encouraged the community to sustainably utilize natural resources found in their localities to improve their livelihoods.
The community advanced different mechanisms on how abject poverty can be eradicated and decried lack of market for their local produce.
