Diarrhoea Epidemic Reported

The public is advised on the outbreak of diarrhoea.
Cases of diarrhoea have been reported

The public is informed that an Outbreak of Diarrhoea has been reported in the following health districts: Jwaneng, Chobe, South East, Gaborone, Kgatleng, Kweneng East and Francistown. The most affected district is Kgatleng.

 

Most of the diarrheal   cases present with frequent watery stools, abdominal pains and nausea. A few cases present with mild fever and vomiting. The majority of diarrhoeal cases have been managed at Out Patient Departments (OPD) and only a few children with severe dehydration have been admitted for inpatient treatment.  Any child with the above signs and symptoms should be taken to the nearest Health facility immediately.

 

The outbreak is being monitored and all necessary actions are

being taken by the District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) and the Ministry of Health.

 

We, therefore, inform the General public that:

·         The present diarrhoeal outbreak is currently confined to the seven districts

·         The Ministry of Health continues  working  to prevent and control the outbreak

·         They adhere to  all the necessary preventive measures as advised by the DHMT.
