Revised Movement Protocol of Cloven hoofed animals and their products in zone 6 and 7
Zone 6
a) Movement out of zone 6
Movement of cloven-hoofed animals and their derived fresh products is not allowed out of the zone and other FMD risk material i.e. thatching grass, crop residues. However, movement of matured meat of cattle slaughtered at Francistown BMC export abattoir is allowed in sealed containers and under movement permit.
b) Into zone 6
Movement of cloven hoofed animals is not allowed. However movement of fresh cloven-hoofed derived meat products intended for commercial purposes is allowed under permit in a sealed vehicle/container and Health Certificate issued from a registered slaughter facility. While movement of fresh cloven-hoofed meat products up to 10kgs for own use is allowed, amounts over 10kgs for own use shall move under permit only. Other fresh cloven-hoofed animals products are allowed without a permit.
c) Movement within zone 6
Movement of matured meat from Francistown BMC abattoir is allowed under permit. Movement of all cloven-hoofed animals is not allowed within zone 6. Cloven-hoofed animals that have crossed into the surveillance zone from the rest of zone 6 must not be returned.
d) Emergency Slaughter
Slaughter facilities still remain closed (within zone 6; rest of zone 6, surveillance zone and infected zone) for slaughter which include abattoirs, slaughter slabs, under the trees or any other condition except emergency slaughter for social occasions. This exception can only be considered on the recommendation of the local tribal authorities and shall be under the supervision of veterinary officials who shall clinically inspect the animals before slaughter and issue a permit for the meat. The meat shall not be leave the place of event unless it is thoroughly cooked.
e) Movement through zone 6
Movement of cloven-hoofed derived fresh products through zone 6 is not allowed except under permit in a sealed vehicle.
Zone 7
a) Movement out of zone 7
Movement of cloven-hoofed animals, their derived fresh products and other FMD risk material i.e. thatching grass, crop residues are not allowed out of the zone.

Meanwhile, veterinary officials throughout Zones 6 and 7 are conducting vaccinations and farmers are urged to present their animals for vaccination. Farmers are urged to be vigilant and report any cattle showing suspicious lesions to nearby veterinary or police offices.
