Police Serve the Community

As part of the Community Service Day members of the Botswana Police Special Support Group (SSG) recently donated groceries to a needy family in Maruapula.

The recipient of the donation is an ailing elderly woman, Ms Bame Galetlalelwe who lives with her children and grandchildren.

Speaking at the occasion SSG Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner Kedikilwe Dikgang, said that they identified the needy person through the community policing initiative. He said that police officers doing patrols in the area saw the plight of the Galetlalelwe family and decided to step in to help.

Mr Dikgang encouraged Ms Galetlalelwe’s children who go to school to take their education serious because through it they can have a better life and improve the welfare of their family.

In his remarks the Councillor for Maruapula, Mr Ephraim Mabengano, commended the police for the donation saying it will help the family since the food ration they receive from government is not always enough to last them longer.

Meanwhile, police officers from Performance Management Service (PMS), Transport and Telecommunications Branch (TTB), Quartermaster Stores, and Human Resources Unit also embarked on litter picking and cleaning at the Village Mall in Gaborone on the same day as part of the Community Service Day initiative.

Kick-starting the clean up campaign, the Botswana Police Service Perfomance Improvement Coordinator Senior Assistant Commissioner, Steven Tsheko commended the police for having decided to clean the environment saying other than keeping the surroundings clean, the campaign will also help to bring the police closer to the public and improve the police/public relationship.

Mr Tsheko said such campaigns involving officers from various Branches and Units of the Police Service will also encourage teamwork amongst police officers and will also encourage good working relationship between the various Police branches and units.
