Foot and Mouth Disease update
The Department of Veterinary Services wishes to inform the general public that there is a confirmed outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in the northern part of Zambia.
In order to reduce the risk of the disease spread into Botswana the following measures have been put in place with immediate effect;

Importation of animal feeds, fresh cloven hoofed animal derived products and cloven hoofed animals or any other material considered to be contaminated with FMD virus from Zambia is not allowed

All vehicles and shoes passing through Kazungula border post from Zambia will be thoroughly disinfected using a 4% soda solution.

Searching has been intensified at Kazungula border post to enforce imposed movement restrictions
Travelers and the general public are strongly advised to cooperate with the Department of Veterinary Services.
The public will be regularly updated on the disease situation.
