Background  Information

Office of People with Disability was established in August 2009 through the Permanent Secretary to the president’ directive no.1 of 2009. The coordinator was appointed on the 27th January 2010 with the mandate of developing and coordinating the implementation of policies and programmes aimed at empowering People with disabilities. The office was launched on 15 April 2010 at the Big Five Lodge and is located in the office of The President 2 office number 011 ground floor..

Mandate

The main purpose of the office is to develop and coordinate the implementation of Policies and programmes aimed at empowering People with disabilities.

Functions of the National Coordination Office for People with Disabilities.

  • Coordinate the development of national policies, strategies and programmes to empower  people with disabilities.
  • Coordinate the implementation of national policies, strategies and programmes aimed at the empowerment and wellbeing of people with disabilities.
  • Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of national policies, strategies and programmes aimed at the empowerment and wellbeing of people with disabilities.
  • Ensuring that disability issues are mainstreamed into sectoral policies and programmes.
  • Ensuring the active involvement and participation of people with disabilities in policy processes, i.e. Formulation, implementation, review, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ensuring the effectiveness of national structures dealing with disability issues
