Police condemn unauthorised lights colours

The Botswana Police would like to advise the motoring public that it is illegal to fit motor vehicles with lamps that emit lights of unauthorised colours.

The Road Traffic Act stipulates that no person shall operate on a road a vehicle which is fitted with a lamp which emits a light which is not white, amber or yellow in colour towards the front and either side of the vehicle.

The Act further stipulates that with the exception of a case of direction indicators or reversing lamp, a vehicle shall not emit a colour which is not red  towards the back.

Regulations 32 to 62 of the Act further stipulate colours of lights exclusive to certain categories of vehicles and their user departments.

According to the Act a green colour is reserved for motor vehicles exceeding 3500kg, red colour for ambulance and fire fighting vehicles, amber for vehicles on breakdown, maintenance of roads and supply of electricity or essential supplies, whilst the blue colour is reserved for the police.

The Police therefore request the concerned motorists to remove the fittings as they are in contravention with regulations.
