Ministry launches Music Against Crime

The Ministry of Defence Justice and Security has launched Music Against Crime (MAC), an initiative aimed at fundraising for the ultimate creation of a Crime Prevention Fund (CPF). The CPF will be used to fund-raise different crime prevention strategies formulated by government to make Botswana a crime free society to afford each inhabitant the freedom to live in harmony and immensely contribute to the best interest of the country.

According to the concept note from the Ministry, MAC consists of a series of activities to be implemented across the country. The initiative intends to raise P5 Million or more in 3 years. It appeals for assistance either financially or in-kind to add to the operational amount of P1.5 Million.

The Ministry notes that crime prevention is one of the social objectives at the pinnacle of Botswana’s national priorities. It therefore, needs a multispectral approach to keep it at a bare minimum to enable the country achieve maximum utility of limited resources for the achievement of prosperity for all.

It also calls for inter-agency collaboration and cross level societal partnerships, private and public sector alliances to foster a congenial environment for private sector growth which then strengthen the public sector by providing accessible, timely and adequate services for the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery in Botswana.

The Ministry recognizes that partnership between the public and private sector, youth organizations and communities cannot be over emphasised. The citizenry should take ownership of the efforts geared at creating an enabling environment for peace, stability and the rule of law

The note emphasises that MAC aims at the development of youth into responsible, disciplined and accountable leaders in the future.
