Police Intercept Smuggled Cigarettes

Serule police have intercepted quantities of undeclared cartons of cigarettes, smuggled into Botswana by a suspected Zimbabwean bus driver who allegedly intended to evade customs tariffs at the Ramokgwebana point of entry.

A total of 564 cartons of Remington Gold Cigarettes, 15 cartons of Everest Cigarettes and 20 cartons of Kings Gate were intercepted by the Diamond and Narcotic Squad (DNS) during routine search of buses at Sese Gate along Francistown/Gaborone road. The cigarettes, whose value was not yet known, were handed over to Customs officials.

The driver of the bus, a male aged 54 years of Bulawayo ran away during the search. Police investigations are continuing to establish the destination and source of the cigarettes cartons.
