Minister of Transport and Communications to sign an MoU on Railway line and Port in Maputo

The Minister of Transport and Communications, Honourable Frank J. Ramsden travels to Maputo today, Friday 16 July 2010, to sign, with his Mozambican counterpart, Honourable Paulo Zucula, a Memorandum of Understanding between Botswana and Mozambique on the development of an on shore deep sea port and heavy haul railway line between the two countries.

The project is expected to bring substantial economic benefits to Botswana.  It will provide the catalyst for diversification of the economy from its reliance on diamond and shift the country from its current constrained and landlocked physical position to a point where it will become a key transportation, mining and manufacturing player in Southern Africa.

Minister Ramsden is expected back home the same day.
