Water levels at Rundu (in Okavango) had risen to 8.67m

The flow situation in the Okavango is becoming increasingly worse. On 16 April the levels at Rundu had risen to 8.67 metres, 2 centimetres above the 2009 peak of 8.65 metres, and it appears to be rising still. From the current water levels at Rundu, Mohembo will reach levels of over 4.133 metres around 24 April, exceeding the 2009 peak of 4.02 metres. Should the water levels continue to rise at Rundu the situation will be even worse.

Based on the new levels at Rundu and the forecast for Mohembo there is going to be serious flooding exceeding the 2009 conditions. Reports from the field indicate that the water is threatening the Mohembo water treatment plant. From last week’s report the Sepopa plant was already being impacted
