Commissioner recognises officer's integrity

Twenty-five police officers from Borakanelo Police Station have been awarded certificates for displaying high levels of integrity in executing police duties.

Speaking at a short ceremoney that was held at Borakanelo Police Station today (07/06/10), the Commissioner of Police Mr Thebeyame Tsimako said the awarding of certificate was a recognisition bestowed on the officers for their efforts in fighting corruption. This follows a number of arrests excuted by the officers on people who tried to bribe them after being arrested for various offences.

Mr Tsimako said the officers have set a standard that should be a challenge to their collegues to emulate them by not accepting bribes saying it is the right thing to fight corruption. He encouraged them to maintain the professional standards they have displayed and resist any temptation that could lead them to corrupt practices.

Mr Tsimako said the state of affairs that once prevailed at Borakanelo was so serious that he sugested to close down the station. He said the police station was described as the most corrupt in the country, but he was happy this has since been a thing of the past.

The officers who received certificate consisted mainly of special constables.

The ceremony was attended amongst them the Division Commander South Central Mr Keabetswe Makgophe, staff officers to the Commissioner Mr Solomon Mantswe, the Public Relations Officer Mr Christopher Mbulawa and senior Police officers.
