Botswana’s teething Aviation industry could soon be transformed into a major international transport hub. This comes after the Minister of Transport and Communications Hon Frank Ramsden informed Media houses during a tour of the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport that talks are currently underway with major Airlines to use Botswana route. This will make Botswana competitive as it is ideally located in Southern Africa. Some major Airlines such as British Airways previously operated a direct route from London to Gaborone but ceased operation due to unsatisfactory facilities. Efforts are beginning to bear fruit as evidenced by the code sharing between Kenya Airways and Air Botswana. Delta Airlines of the USA also paid a visit to Botswana last year to inspect the new facilities. Cumulative progress of the Airport upgrading is at 78% and it is expected to be complete by January 2011.
