The Department of Information Services (DIS) was formally established in April 2004 following the splitting of the then Department of Information and Broadcasting (DIB) into two departments.

The department consists of two professional divisions, the Botswana Press Agency (BOPA) and Publications. The department, whose headquarters is in Gaborone, has 23 offices around the country, and is expected to increase its presence by establishing more offices by the end of NDP 10. 

The major flagships of the department are the Daily News and Kutlwano. These two publications have now been semi- commercialized.

Published monthly since 1962, Kutlwano is Botswana’s most read monthly magazine (according to DIS 2007 readership survey with a circulation of 15000 copies). It is printed monthly and distributed nationally.

It covers a diverse editorial scope and is read by people in all stages of life. It is a family magazine published mainly in Setswana and English and contains cultural news, entertainment and feature articles.

Our readers look to Kutlwano Magazine for information such as advice on topics ranging from legal to relationship and general life issues.  Selling for P3.00 a copy, it is also available on subscription fee of P33. 00 per year.

The Botswana Press Agency (BOPA) is a government-owned news agency. All local news stories are published online daily in The Dailynews website,  except on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
