What are the costs of corruption?

Corruption has devastating results to both individuals and the society. At the national level corruption breeds untold misery including the following:

·         Undermines development

·         Disregards fair play and quality work

·         Economic benefits are enjoyed by the unscrupulous few

·         Corruption constitutes a major obstacle to democracy and the rule of law

·         It leads to depletion of national wealth

·         Corruption hinders the development of fair market structures and distorts competition, thereby deterring investment

·         Creates poverty

·         Socially corruption undermines people’s trust in the political system and its leadership

·         Corruption is the source of wars and conflicts

Globally, ccorruption impacts people’s lives in many different ways. In terrible cases, corruption costs lives, in other cases; it costs their liberty, wealth and health.
