The “BDF Bands in Concert Style” first performed in 1991 at the Village Health Club in Gaborone. It was an initiative started by the then Commander, His Excellency the President Lt Gen S.K.I. Khama, with the aim to generate funds to assist the needy in our society.

With time this concert has become one of the most important events of the BDF “Outreach-Community Development Projects” under which the BDF strives to reach to the society and render assistance to those in need or social responsibility as it is called nowadays.

In 1991 the concert started with just four bands and used to be held only in Gaborone. In 1994 two more venues of Selebi Phikwe and Francistown were added and since 1995 the Bands have been performing in all major towns and cities of Botswana.

Today the concert comprises thirteen bands which form part of the BDF Bands Concert. This year the concerts will be presented in Gaborone, Mahalapye, Selebi Phikwe, Francistown, Lobatse, Ghanzi and Jwaneng.
