A SPOTLESS EVIRONMENT FOR ALL

A clean environment institutes a healthy wellbeing; this was the overly used message of the day during a cleanup campaign commemoration which was hosted by Kanye Administrative Authority at Moshana village.

Outlining the objectives of the day Principal Environmental Health Officer, Mr L.M Motlhatlhedi mentioned that the day was organized as a way of imparting ideas on how the environment can be conserved through messages from choir music, theater/acting as well as from speakers of the day. Furthermore he mentioned that Kanye Administrative Authority has a vision of being the cleanest village in Botswana by December 2015, “being the cleanest village is our number one priority therefore we will do everything in our power to make sure we attain the prestigious title,” he said.  

Guest speaker of the day, Enviro Cosult (pty) Ltd Director Mr Clifford Matsoga encouraged all to be environmentally friendly by not littering as litter is hazardous to every living being including domestic animals as they feed on them. Moreover he emphasized on the importance of good personal hygiene as it helps to prevent the development and spread of infections and illnesses.

The day was filled with entertainment by Bana ba Motho Theater Group as well as eight (8) choirs which were competing, out of which Kgwatlheng Choir scoped position 1, followed by Mahitshwana and Gasita which scoped position 2 & 3 respectively. Other categories included cleanest village which was divided by wards in Kanye, another was medium villages divided in two villages being Molapowabojang and Lotlhakane East, while small villages were divided into 3 villages being Moshana, Lorolwane and Ga-Segwagwa, additionally there was also clean household, cleanest business and also best recycled materials. This year’s cleanup campaign commemoration was held under two themes being “Promoting the 3R (Reduce, Reuse and Recycling) the key to a cleaner Botswana” and the international theme was “Our planet…Our place…Our responsibility”.
