EXPANSION PROJECTS TO INCREASE BOTSWANA’S OPTIC FIBRE NETWORK BY APPROXIMATELY 1000KM

Honourable Tshenolo Mabeo has started off an expansion project to construct approximately 1000km of optic fibre cable that will drive social, economic, cultural and political transformation in Botswana through the use of ICTs.

The projects are in the following places with their approximate figures:-
Sehitwa to Mohembo
362km Maun to Ngoma (Approx. P76 Million Pula).
358km Sekoma to Tsabong (Approx. P55 Million Pula).

Currently there are more than 6000km of Optic fibre systems in Botswana fully managed and maintained by Government owned BOFINET – Botswana Fibre Network. The upgrading of the current microwave  system to a fibre optical network system with a 20 year lifespan will enhance Botswana’s image as a technologically advancing country in Africa as it facilitates and enhances ICT connectivity, enabling service providers a more efficient reach for their customers.
