ROADS DEPARTMENT PROCURES MOBILE LABORATORY UNITS
The Roads Department, Material and Research Division has procured a tender for laboratory equipment of about 12 million pula. This was to replace the old testing equipment which was costing a lot of money to repair and also to meet the technology advancement in the material testing equipment that is currently used in road construction. Among the equipment that has been received there are four units of mobile laboratory. The units are 5.96 m by 2.41m by 1.0m in size. They have space for freezer, oven and other testing equipment. With additions of relevant equipment they can be used to do complete classification tests of gravel and aggregates. Materials investigating teams will use the units when doing gravel surveys in various regions. Currently gravel samples are tested at material central laboratory in Gaborone taking a long time to test and issue the results due to limited resources in the laboratory. The mobile laboratory will be more efficient as the testing will be carried out on site allowing flexibility in deciding on the preferred material quality as the results will be issued on site.
