President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, the Vice President, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe and Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse adorned over 700 police officers with medals to mark the Botswana Police Service 129th anniversary.  

Officers were last Friday (August 9) awarded the Botswana Police Distinguished Service Order, Meritorious Service, Jubilee Service as well as Long Service and Good Conduct. 

President Khama awarded the senior management team of the Botswana Police various medals with Deputy Commissioner (Support Services), Mr Tapudzani Gabolekwe and Senior Assistant Commissioners David Mosetse, Dinah Marathe and Mathews Maduwane among those receiving the Meritorious Service while Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Bruno Paledi received the Long Service award.

The President also awarded former Deputy Commissioner (Support Services) and now Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs permanent secretary, Mr Ikwathaeng Bagopi  with  the Distinguished  Service Order medal.

Assistant Commissioners Mathews Letsholo, Kgosietsile Bosilong, Committee Tlalanyane and retired Assistant Commissioner David Mogorosi also received Distinguished Service Order awards. 

Senior Superintendents Bonnie Bareki, Masego Kgengwenyane, Lazarus Moalosi, Lesitang Moshabi and Richard Baraedi, were among those who received the Distinguished Service Order awards. 

Assistant Superintendent Selebatso Mooketsi of the Botswana Police public relations unit was awarded the Long Service award together with other officers.

The event was also graced by the former Commissioner of Police Mr Norman Moleboge, Botswana Defence Force Commander Major General Gaolathe Galebotswe, President of the Customary Court of Appeal Kgosi Mothibe Linchwe, members of the diplomatic corps and other senior government officials. ENDS
