Mongala Mall Ground Breaking
22/04/13
With the recent economic downfall, governments have been left with no option but to advocate for Public Private Partnerships. It is in this context that Local Authorities around the country taking up this initiative and partnering with various local and international companies. It was a monumental day for the Kanye, when Hon. Siele officially declared the construction of Mongala Mall underway. Mongala Mall is a partnership between Time Projects Botswana PTY (Ltd) and Southern District Council. It is worth noting that this is not the first partnership the company has undertaken with government. According to Sandy Kelly- Project Manager,”we have had partnerships on projects such as Hillside Shopping Center in Lobatse and Serowe Main Mall among others.”
Mall will cover 6500 square metres

The mall, which will cover 6500 square meters will host 40 shops and 30 kiosks. Thus it will serve as a means of revenue generation for SDC, as they have leased the land on which the mall stands. Revenue from the project is expected to be used to finance council developments and activities.

Speaking at the ground breaking, Hon. Siele congratulated SDC for partnering with the private sector in the provision of infrastructure which will benefit all Batswana. Worthy of note is that the mall will be the first of its kind for the village. Therefore, it is quite a welcome development as speaker after speaker lamented the tedious task of travelling to places as far as Mafikeng in South Africa just to shop in a decent mall.

The construction of this mall will thus leave a long standing footprint in Kanye in terms of the socio-economic development of the locality
