About The Forum

The National Children’s Consultative Forum (NCCF) was established by the Children’s Act of 2009 (Part VI (34) (1), to empower children to influence actions, processes and decisions that affect them.

Through this Forum, children can advocate on issues of child survival, development, protection and participation in the country, by expressing their views and bringing forward issues that they think should be addressed concerning children. Furthermore, issues affecting the education, health, safety and general well-being of children in the country are discussed at this Forum, and recommended to the National Children’s Council.

Composition

Ten children from each of the 16 Districts are selected to serve as members of the Forum. Each District selects its own Chairperson who will subsequently campaign for the position of National Forum Chairperson or Vice Chairperson, both of whom will be elected by all members of the Children’s Forum through a vote. Each member of the Forum holds office for a period of two years, and is eligible for re-election. The National Children’s Consultative Forum meets once every year, and is convened by the Department of Social Services under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
