DEFENCE FORCE APPRECIATES HARD WORK

GABORONE - Botswana Defence Force (BDF) commander, Lt Gen. Placid Segokgo, has praised soldiers who excel in their duties.
Speaking during the 11th BDF awards ceremony in Mogoditshane recently, Lt Gen. Segokgo, said by producing an outstanding performance, the soldiers were contributing to attainment of the BDF mission of protecting the nation and its resources.
He said BDF would continue to train and up-skill its personnel, therefore, he urged soldiers to take advantage of available opportunities to develop themselves and increase productivity in the army.
“BDF continues to allocate substantial resources to development of training infrastructure and human capital. It is incumbent upon yourselves to exploit existing opportunities for self-development.
Exceptional performance is within each and every one and can be achieved if you stand tall with unwavering determination to excel,” said the commander.
He pointed out that high productivity in the workplace was necessary to improve the national and global competitiveness.
To increase productivity in the army, Lt Gen. Segokgo stated that the BDF recently certified 17 officers to facilitate smart work ethics training.
Servicemen and women who were exalted for their outstanding performances, included best performing private rank soldiers, best performing junior non-commissioned officers, best performing senior non-commissioned officers, best performing warrant officers, best performing junior commanders, best-performing sub-unit commanders, best unit commander, best unit and other awards.
Lt Gen. Segokgo said soldiers who were given the awards had demonstrated an extraordinary contribution to attainment of the BDF mission.
“Our recognition and celebration of their achievement are meant to, among other things, inspire the BDF workforce at large to follow in their footsteps,” he said.
Chairperson of the awards committee, Colonel Gothatamang Gopolang, said the awards were meant to recognise, appreciate and commend hard work of all employees of the BDF, being uninformed and non-uniformed.
