PRESS RELEASE - Sir Seretse Khama Memorial Fund (Appeal) Office of the President through the Coordinating Office for People with disabilities wishes to appeal for Funds from the Public towards Sir Seretse Khama Memorial Fund for the Handicap (SSKMF).The Fund is aimed at helping People with Disabilities overcome obstacles that make their everyday living extremely difficult and provide renewed sense of dignity, independence and freedom. The Fund is a statutory body created in 1981 under the Finance and Audit Act. It was created through statutory instrument No 60, "to assist People with Disabilities in Botswana by providing them with their means either in cash or in kind". Since its establishment, government has been contributing an annual grant of P500 000 into the fund to ensure support and commitment to the plight of people with disabilities whilst the volumes of application increases daily. The appeal's goal can be achieved in cooperation with strategic partners and therefore the Office is calling for companies and individuals to assist in providing funds to procure wheelchairs, spectacles, crutches, hearing aids as well as modification of their houses so to improve their living conditions.
