Madirelo Training and Testing Centre

Madirelo Training and Testing Centre (MTTC) was established in 1986 through the Apprenticeship and Industrial Training Act, No. 2 of 1983.  MTTC was mandated to coordinate the functions of apprenticeship and industrial training as well as Trade Testing programme for the purposes of developing skills that are required by the industry in Botswana.  This would in turn curb the rate at which Botswana is importing essential skills.  More specifically, the mandate of MTTC is as follows:

  • Conduct industrial training/skills upgrading courses for in-service people
  • Implementation of national vocational assessments and examinations, as well as certification
  • Registration and placement of apprentices
  • Monitoring of On-the-Job Training (OJT) for the various vocational skills in the country.
  • Curriculum development and review

 Qualifications Offered

MTTC awards nationally recognised qualifications at three levels, which are:

  • National Craft Certificate (NCC)
  • Trade Test ‘B’
  • Trade Test ‘C’, which comes in two components - C(T+P) [Theory & Practical] and C(P) [Practical only].
  • MTTC is also responsible for conducting Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and / or Recognition of Current Competences (RCC) at trade test C and B levels.  These systems are intended for employees with at least three (3) years of industrial experience who would be assessed for competences on various skills.  Those who demonstrate competence in performing skills would be awarded a certificate.
