The Standing Committee on Statutory Bodies and State Owned Enterprises chaired by the Member of Parliament for Gaborone West North, Hon.  Robert Masitara started conducting its second examinations of over fifty statutory bodies and state owned enterprises on 3rd September 2012.

The Committee comprises of Member of Parliament for Gaborone Central, Hon. Dumelang Saleshando, Member of Parliament for Tonota South, Hon. Pono P. P Moatlhodi, Member of Parliament for Tati West, Hon. Mbiganyi C. Tibone, Member of Parliament for Nata/Gweta, Hon. Rayner Makosha, Member of Parliament for Ngwaketse West, Hon. Mephato Reatile, Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi North, Hon. Phillip Khwae and Member of Parliament for South East South, Hon. Odirile Motlhale.

The mandate of the Committee is to examine:

• The accounts of every statutory body which is required by law, to be laid before the National Assembly

• Such other accounts of statutory bodies laid before a Minister of the Government of the Republic of Botswana as required by any written law, as shall be decided by the Assembly

• The accounts of any statutory body in the exercise of its oversight function

• The accounts of any company wherein the Government of the Republic of Botswana, directly or indirectly through a nominee or such other representative capacity, is the sole equity stakeholder.

• The accounts of every Agency of the Government of the Republic of Botswana
• The accounts of every trust of the Government of the Republic of Botswana

• The accounts of anybody corporate of the Government of the Republic of Botswana and

• The accounts of any state enterprises, of the Government of the Republic of Botswana.

In examining the accounts stated above, the Committee shall take into account the report of the Auditor General, executed pursuant to statutory provisions, and the audit reports duly appointed exeternal auditors and management letters.

The Committee is expected to end its examinations on or around 12th October 2012.
