The Member of Parliament for Lobatse, who is also the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and Member of the Southern African Development Community of Public Accounts Committees (SADCOPAC) Governing Council will leave for Nelspruit, South Africa on 1st September 2012, to attend the SADCOPAC Office Bearers Meeting and Conference.

On Sunday, 2nd September 2012, the Member will be joined by Member of Parliament for Tonota North, Hon. Fidelis M. Molao, Member of Parliament for Gaborone South, Hon. Kagiso Molatlhegi, Member of Parliament for Tati East, Hon. Samson M. Guma, and Member of Parliament for Kanye North, Hon. Kentse S. Rammidi who are also members of the PAC.

The theme of this year’s Conference is “Improving the effectiveness of Public Accounts Committees in holding government to account  for the use of the public sector resources”

SADCOPAC is an Organisation charged with the responsibility of empowering Members of Parliament (MPs) of member states to effectively carry out their functions of oversight over public sector finances as well as promoting good governance in the region. The following topics will be discussed at the conference:

1. Accountability and Transparency in state owned enterprises – opportunities and challenges for the Public Accounts Committees.
2. Public Accounts Committees effectiveness in ensuring executive accountability for public spending.
3. Relationship between PAC, the SAIs and Accountant-General in improving transparency and accountability process.
4. Developing measurable objectives in Performance Auditing.
 Botswana will make a presentation on Public Accounts Committees effectiveness in ensuring executive accountability for public spending.

The Honourable Members are expected back on the 7th September 2012.
