Official Opening of Parliament

The 1st Meeting of the 4th Session of the 10th Parliament will commence on Monday 5th November 2012, at 1430hrs.  The meeting will start with the State of the Nation Address by His Excellency Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, President of the Republic of Botswana.

Parliament will debate the State of the Nation Address effective from the 7th November 2012 and will continue for the next 15 days in accordance with Parliamentary Standing Orders.

It is expected that the Leader of Opposition will be the first to respond, in keeping with Parliamentary tradition.  The Leader of the House is expected to respond to the debates on the 3rd December 2012 or earlier.

It is estimated that the meeting will last for six (6) weeks, and will end on the 14th December 2012.

Arrangements will be made for all interested Media Houses to cover the Official Opening of Parliament live.  As for members of the public, a tent with chairs and plasma screens will be provided in front of the Parliament buildings, to enable them to watch the proceedings in the House live.
