Parliament of Botswana will this week send a delegation of 3 Members of Parliament to attend the 128th Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly to be held in Quito, Ecuador from 21st to 27th March 2013.

The delegation led by Hon Kagiso P. Molatlhegi,  and Member of Parliament for Gaborone South will comprise of, Hon. Dumelang Saleshando Member of Parliament for Gaborone Central and Hon. Botlogile Tshireletso, Member of Parliament for Mahalapye East, who is also the Chairperson of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus.

Over 1100 Parliamentarians across world Parliaments are expected to attend this event, convened under the Theme; “From unrelenting Growth to Purposeful Development “Buen Vivir”: New Approaches, New Solutions.”
During the Assembly, members of the delegation will take part in other side events and panel discussions convened under various themes. Hon Tshireletso is expected to participate at a panel discussion on “Addressing the Rights of Children with Disabilities” as well as at a “Workshop on Ensuring Accountability for Women’s and Children’s Health.”

The IPU’s Committee on Middle East Questions and the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians will also be sitting during the Assembly with resolutions on various human rights cases of Parliamentarians being adopted by the Governing Council.

The delegation is expected back in the country on the 29th March, 2013.
