ACP-EU Meeting

The Member of Parliament for South East South, Honourable Odirile Motlhale and the Member of Parliament for Kgatleng West, Honourable Gilbert S. Mangole left for Brussels, Belgium on Sunday 17th March, 2013 to attend the 31st Session of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly. They will also attend the Inter-Sessional Meetings of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly which will be held from the 19th – 22nd March, 2013.

The ACP is composed of the following Standing Committees:

1.    Standing Committee on Social Affairs and the Environment
2.    Standing Committee on Economic Development, Finance and
3.    Trade Standing Committee on Political Affairs

Botswana is currently a member of the ACP-EU Standing Committee on Social Affairs and Environment.

The meeting is expected to discuss the following issues among others:
1. Human Resources for Health in ACP countries.
2. The Social and environmental impacts of Pastoralism on ACP countries.
3.  South-South and Triangular Cooperation: Opportunities and Challenges for ACP States.
4. The threats posed again by military coups on democracy and political stability in the ACP countries and the role of the international community.
5.  Respect for the Rule of Law and the Role of an Impartial and Independent Judiciary.
6.  The political situation in ACP and EU Member States.
7.  State of play of Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) process (negotiation and implementation) and the way forward.

The Honourable Members are expected back on the 23rd March, 2013.
